Leaves
i’ll take my leave
and leave you all
to believe what you will
and heave my hoe
until the glistening snow
melts
and spring entrenches
then marches forward
to summer
love and sport and freedom
glory be to the one above
who watches us play kickball
at night under the playground
lights
after the mosquitoes
have drank their fill
and gone to bed
then in the morning the wind
blows
chilly
the leaves turn
and fall
until they are burned
or covered with snow
