This blog is dedicated to a new project that I am starting. Every day for a year I will write a new poem and post it to this blog. Obviously poetry is all about revision, so these will not be the final drafts, but instead the rough versions which may someday become something better. I was inspired by (stole this idea from) Joe Janes who is just starting his year long sketch a day project. I felt that I needed to put something down on paper (or virtual paper). “Writers write” is the traditional definition of what makes a writer. I have always considered myself a writer, but for the last six months I have not been able to do any creative writing. I am using this as a kick in the ass to get me back on track.
The Parameters:
1- Every night I will post a piece of writing here on this blog. It will mostly be poetry, but there might be an occasional short story or sketch thrown in.
2- I will try to include some comments on that day’s poem as a way to remind myself of where I was coming from, and maybe to give people an idea of my process. I am not making any claims that my way is the only (or best) way of doing something, but maybe others will find some nuggets that they can add to their own way of working.
3- Not that I should have to mention this, but all material is copyrighted by me, Brian Paris. You may not use any of this without permission from me. (Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss the issue).
4- Please feel free to comment on any of the post. If you like something let me know. If you hate something, let me know why and I will try to see it as constructive criticism. Keep it all civil and we shouldn’t have any problems.
5- I realize that work done in one day, will not be finished pieces. I am hoping to get enough raw material in a year to rework and publish.
Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy the project.
