The Poetry of Brian Paris

Week 25, Day 171 – “Wet Grass”

Wet Grass

got to water the grass
to grow in the desert
the only green around
for a perfect picnic
with sandwiches and punch
too bad the grass is wet

Week 25, Day 170 – “Minger”

Minger

minger, minger
dirty blues singer
ugly fuck
is better than
no fuck
unless the minger
wilts your dick off

Week 25, Day 169 – “Sick Day”

Sick Day

no morning caffeine
withdrawal headaches
and a sick day

time to go to bed
and start tomorrow

Week 24, Day 168 – “Ever”

Ever

ever?
forever?
for forever?
never.

Week 24, Day 167 – “Hello”

Hello

hello, is this thing on
step up to the mic and spit
rhyme your life’s troubles
until they go away

Week 24, Day 166 – “The Cruelty of Liars”

The Cruelty of Liars

falsehoods spoken
lead to anger
truths unspoken
lead to tears

Week 24, Day 165 – “Snow”

Snow

every different snowflake
does its part to cover up
the cruelty of the liars

Week 24, Day 164 – “Automatic”

Automatic

wake, toast and tv
a caffeinated cola
and I’m on my way

Week 24, Day 163 – “TV”

TV

our family tv was a piece of furniture
big console that took up space on the floor
not hooked to the wall with glowing lights
and surround sound
all of us kids would watch together
fighting sometimes over the channel
but we’d decide on something eventually
usually sitcoms or mtv
that was back in the day when both were great

now the tv is flat
background noise
a distraction
to get me through
another day.

Week 24, Day 162 – “Three, Two, One”

Three, Two, One

three day holiday
two more years left in Doha
one thing left to learn
