The Poetry of Brian Paris

Week 19, Day 131 – “Humid Day Dreams”

Humid Day Dreams

glasses fog leaving air cold-ditioned life
entering the heat of the humid day
I can see just white water condensed
clouding out life, and the bright open sky
leaving me to be uncomfortable
in another heat induced day dream
dying to go back inside, to my home

Week 19, Day 130 – “Old Friends”

Old Friends

thank you for sharing your time with me
and allowing me to vent and talk
to tell the truth and to lie

you were always helpful

quiet when I needed you to listen
and telling me to shut up
when I got too far astray

Week 19, Day 129 – “Sixteen”

Sixteen

We are who we were, when we were sixteen.
Make peace with that and you will be happy.

Week 19, Day 128 – “On Top”

On Top

I walked out my front door tonight
saw the sand in the sky
heard the wind,
and felt the heat from the desert.

It was then, standing there
that I realized that I was on top of the world
the center of it all
Europe, Asia and Africa
all coming together under my feet

the beginning of civilization
and the current center of turmoil

the spinning of the world around me
makes me dizzy.

people forget that the eye
is the only safe place in any storm

so for now, I am happy
standing on top
and watching the world go round.

Week 19, Day 127 – “Mr. Sharp”

Mr. Sharp

nickel plated thumb tacks
pushed hard into my fingers
numbing out all the feeling

makes it easier to tap
out notes to favorite songs
tip tap tip tip, tip tap tip.

hello, mr. sharp is here

Week 18, Day 126 – “Spinning”

Spinning

I can hear the cat screaming
from the outside street.
I hope no one hurt it.

Inside I am lying down
with my head spinning
spinning from excess

too much food
to many options
too much thinking

Week 18, Day 125 – “News”

News

this just in
breaking story
read all about it

audio stingers
full page graphics
breaking news crawl

some one died
or is missing
or is a celebrity

all of this about people
whom they tell me
I should care about

but I really don’t

just like I don’t care
about the thousands of others
in the exact same situation

who you choose not to make news

Week 18, Day 124 – “Thieves and Liars”

Thieves and Liars

stealing ain’t the hardest part
it’s keeping quiet after
you want to brag about it
tell people how you beat them
beat them all, beat the system
it’s talking that gets you caught
and you get stuck doing time

Week 18, Day 123 – “Risk”

Risk

death comes to those who mate
a long, longing death

after happiness, bliss
left alone

waiting for the future
to catch up with history

Week 18, Day 122 – “Not You”

Not You

It’s not you,
but it’s not me either.

Maybe it just the damn dog
always barking when we’re trying to get it on.
