The Poetry of Brian Paris

Week 18, Day 121 – “Blood Trails”

Blood Trails

ink runs from my broken pen
down my shirt from my heart pocket
it is cold in here
and I am almost out of ink
I can’t write my will
without my damn pen
I am going to die here
in trails of ink and blood.

Week 18, Day 120 – “Nipsy, Tipsy”

Nipsy, Tipsy

Nipsy, Tipsy
and I just want to dance

all the happy kids dance
where ever there’s music
not because they have to
but because they want to
because it’s fun to dance

Week 17, Day 119 – “Mid-West to Mid-East”

Mid-West to Mid-East

surrounded by cornfields and soybeans
I grew up a pretty normal mid-western life

surrounded by desert
the birth of civilization is now my home.

Week 17, Day 118 – “Time”

Time

my watch band broke
just out of high school
since then I’ve never worn another

when people ask,
“What time is it?”
I just tell them,
“It’s time to dance.”

Week 17, Day 117 – “SUV”

SUV

all the same
big and bad ass

not to blame
for all the used gas

Week 17, Day 116 – “Circus of the World”

Circus of the World

three ring binder with pictures
of freaks in clown costumes
my life’s photo album
memories, friends, family
and a few lost loves

Week 17, Day 115 – “Artist”

Artist

Unknown
in a world of 6 Billion
you are the best

Undiscovered
just working your vision
into your masterpiece

If we someday get to see it,
we will be the lucky ones.

Week 17, Day 114 – “Good Life”

Good Life

floating on root-beer
and ice cream

picking bananas
from the trees

my buddy paco
says to me

life is good
life is good tonight

Week 17, Day 113 – “Avoiding”

Avoiding

say it
say it out loud

“I love you.”

there
I said it.

Week 16, Day 112 – “Three Things”

Three Things

There are three things that I want to tell you.

One is that I’ll never grow up,
no matter that you ask me to.

Two is that I love you,
even if I don’t show it.

Three is that I can’t be true,
it’s just not in my nature.
