Week 28, Day 194 – “Stars”

Stars

children sneak out of their houses
to see the stars in the night sky
to them it is a spiritual revelation
their first experience with what we call god
later they sit in schools and learn the rules
the dos and don’ts of old men’s stories
and less and less of wonder

Week 28, Day 193 – “Dino”

Dino

the Flintstone’s pet dinosaur
was such a loyal companion

even in cartoon pre-history
man had a need for dogs

outside of the boob tube
we still need dogs and gods

Week 28, Day 192 – “Alive”

Alive

I was born to drink martinis
in the early city mornings
to stumble along
trying to get home
too broke to take a cab
and too impatient for the L
the cold air sobers and pricks
soon I’ll be home
home to vodka
and drunk girls falling out
of their going out dresses
slurred speeches
about the meaning of life
the lead to unforgettable truths
forgotten in the morning mess
dry mouths and headaches
reminding me that I’m alive

Week 28, Day 191 – “Give”

Give

give me a kiss
a kiss on the lips
and savor the moment
when I am gone

giving is the best
way to receive

Week 28, Day 190 – “The Future”

The Future

got asked the question today,
“what are your plans for the future?”
don’t know why I’m here today
nothing planned for tomorrow
maybe, I’ll just lay around
and listen to girl pop songs
happiness only comes from
having more than what you want

want nothing and be happy?

Week 27, Day 189 – “Headache”

Headache

no caffeine
and my head explodes
blood vessels just pop and bleed
blood running out of my ears
down my neck to my collar
and I just want to get rid of these damn headaches
cold turkey and aspirins
might not be the way to go
I am week and need my fix

Week 27, Day 188 – “Ice Scream”

Ice Scream

I loves me some ice cream
I’d scream for some if I thought that would help
what do I need to do to get me some
damn you and your ice cream hording self
just a little to share with me
be kind

Week 27, Day 187 – “Last Light”

Last Light

staring at the last burning lamp
in the chandelier
five down and I am waiting
waiting for the sixth to go
if I turn away I might miss it
the silent dim of the newly dead bulb
only then can I tell of the story
of the darkness in the darkness
the young will not understand
they’ll call me a fool, to talk of light
but I will, by my word
make it real for them
so even in the darkness
they will see as I have
and then they will praise me.
that is why I stare, and wait
’til dead bulb fades or blindness.

Week 27, Day 186 – “Body of Knowledge”

Body of Knowledge

the source of all knowledge
comes from our body
perceiving the world

numbered senses:
measured, felt, and documented
or remembered fogottens:
longed for, loved and intuitive

Week 27, Day 185 – “Wilder-ness”

Wilder-ness

the amount to which
you are more wild
than someone other

to be taken note
by opposite sex
who’s interested

to have a good time
