Last Place
if i run a race and finish in last place
i’ll be happy to have started
working my way as hard as i could
watching the other go by me
until i lose sight of them in the distance
and in the spring air darkness
be invigorated at finishing
even after the celebrations were finished
i may have been in last place
but i was there, and i competed.
